I started shooting bows as a young boy of about
10. My father bought me a red fiberglass recurve and a few arrows
- ecpecting me to loose them pretty quickly. I wandered the
hills of southern Illinois "hunting" ground squirrels and rabbits.
There was not much game in llinois back then but I had a great
time shooting my bow.
My love for the bow took a hiatus of many years
while I hunted with a rifle or handgun. I eventually came back
to the bow and the old excitement returned. I Did not come home
with game often - still don't. But I am always happy to be in
the great outdoors. I also have
a great time shooting 3D tournaments. I
enjoy the comaraderie and competition.
I started out making self bows and after making
a few decided to try laminated longbows. After one, I was hooked,
I am now working off of my fifth bow form and continue to look
for ways to improve them. Laminated longbows are about 1/2 the
work of a self bow and I like the higher performance.
A big thank you to several full-time bowyer friends,
helping along the way. They've given me great advice and answered
many questions. To them I'm very grateful and appreciate them
sharing their bow making knowledge and
great experiences.
